Ok so we got our first named storm of the season today.  Grew pretty fast too.  Couple of tornados touched down.  Hope nobody was injured.  The wind was crazy today!  Kelly and I were bored stuck in the house so I decided to have a fashion shoot.  She got to try on new dresses and I got to play around with my gear.  After being shut in all day our friend Andrea was nice enough to give everyone here in St Pete a break for a while.  Kell Bell and I shot down to the Grand Plaza on St Pete Beach for a beer and to watch the sunset.  I drank the beer, she drank a bottled water.  She was my DD.  I couldn’t believe how gorgeous it was out there after such a crazy day.  The wind was blowing just enough to feel wonderful.  All of a sudden the sun popped out and so did the colors.  Jackpot!  Went for a little walk down the beach and headed home.  After a depressing start, it had a nice ending.  Well, we’ll see.  Hopefully the Phils can hold their lead.

P.S.  If the sunset pictures don’t seem very sharp, it’s because I’m an idiot.  I forgot to clean off the filter attached to the lens.  It had water spots all over it and I didn’t notice until I got home.  No wonder I had such a hard time focusing!!

I was able to walk around this morning and snap some pictures of The Pier in downtown St Petersburg.  Here is a link if you’d like to see more.  I shot everything in HDR.  It was kind of a gloomy day so I thought the HDR would make everything POP!  Especially since The Pier is such a colorful place. The pelicans were out, the sun tried to make an appearance but no luck while I was there, and most of all, the people were out.  I overheard so many great stories while walking around.  The last two pictures in this post are of my daughter Kelly.  I thought it’d be nice if I took a shot of her at The Pier on it’s last day and I am going to take another when they are finished with whatever they decide to build.

A couple weeks ago I was asked by the brothers of Nardo’s Natural to join them at Tropicana Field to take pictures of them throwing out the first pitch against the Mets.  You might have seen the brothers before on an episode of ABC’s Shark Tank or their products featured on Good Morning America.  Well the press pass I was given for the shoot gave me all access for the duration of the game to all the cool photo pits around the field.  SWEEEET!!!  I was like a kid in a candy store.  Check it out……….  Just click on the photo to make it larger.

I know, I know….  It’s been a WHILE since my last blog post.  Been a little busy but I’m back in full force!  What a better way to come back  then with a beautiful wedding I shot down at the Grand Plaza Hotel a few weeks ago.  Ya couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.  Sun was out, flowers were blooming, and Drew and Aukse were tying the knot.  This was a special wedding for me because I’ve known Drew and Aukse for a few years now.  Real good people with great friends coming down from Chicago to celebrate and party all night!  I had a blast!  This was my first wedding I’ve shot down at the Grand Plaza and I must say it’s gorgeous.  Catwalks from the hotel take you right out to a wonderful set-up for sunset beach weddings.  Then after some pics with the bride and groom we moved in to the Palm Room which has a patio over looking the pool and beach.  It was a outstandingly great time with extremely nice and fun people and a wonderful staff doing a great job.  Thanks everyone!  Now for some pics…………….

Ahhhh…….It’s that time of year!  The wind is a little brisk in the morning, beautiful sunsets, and baseball is in the air.  Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies’ pitchers and catchers began reporting for Spring Training.  The past couple of days other players have been showing up eager to get started.  Halladay for one! In his ‘32 Ford!  Sweeeeet!!!  Howaaaaarddd!!  That’s right!  Ryan Howard is already running sprints and takin’ ground balls.  He’s lookin’ good so far.  Another player who is lookin’ good so far is Jim Thome.  Oh yea………He’s back and he’s crushin’ it!  How do I know!?!  Cause I was in Clearwater yesterday morning takin’ some pics of our beloved Phils.  Thome was smashing home runs all over the place.  Oh yea….He’s still got it!  I have to say they all looked good and hungry.  Hungry for another title.  Pence was a madman!  Even though it’s the first few days and most hitters are swinging at 1/2 to 3/4 swing, Pence was driving balls out of the ballpark like his life depended on it.  While in the cage, after hitting a ball literally out of the ballpark, Pence hit a line drive right at Utley and Thome who were shooting the sh@# with Rubén Amaro in foul territory on the third base side.  Utley reached up and snagged it inches from Thome’s head saving him from god knows what!  Then I yelled……”JIM, CHASE JUST SAVED YOUR LIFE!!”  Thome looked back and said ” Yea he did’!  I love this time of year!  Here are some of the pictures I’ve taken over the past few days………………Big thanks to Crossing Broad for helping me spread them around……

Holy cow!  Has it really been a month since my last post!?!  Man I’m a slacker!  Guess I should call it “This Month in Photos.”  In my last post, which seems like forever ago, I was explaining how I’ve been trying a lot of HDR Photography.  It’s so much fun!!!  As you can see, I like exclamation points!  With digital photography there are many times I feel like all I do is hold the shutter down, fire off a few hundred shots, and wait for a good picture to show up on my LCD screen.  With HDR, I’m using a tripod, getting myself into position, composing the shot, and still playing with the gear and settings.  It makes me feel more like a photographer.  It’s pretty cool!  If you’d like to learn how or read more about it just check out Trey Ratcliff’s site.  He’s the GOD of HDR Photography!  He also offers free tutorials on how to do it.  Now here is This Week, I mean, This Month in Photos.

HDR Photography

In the last month or so I’ve been playing around with HDR Photography.  HDR stands for “High Dynamic Range”.  In HDR Photography you usually merge several photos at different exposures to give you the best overall picture.  I use Photomatix Pro to blend these images.  What Photomatix does is it takes the best pixels of each image and blends them together to form one.  Most commonly, 3 exposures are used.  I’m always looking for new things in the world of photography.  Whether it’s a new camera, wedding, engagement, sporting event, or just something I’ve never shot before.  HDR is one of those things.  It’s a little more work but it makes you think about the shot more.  Check it out………

The other day I was editing a few pictures I took of my daughter for Christmas.  While doing so I couldn’t help notice on how much she has grown this past year.  So I started looking back at pictures from earlier in the year.  It’s been a year filled with joy and happiness for me.  Phillies Spring Training, my Mother staying in Pass-a-Grille during the Spring, the Florida State Fair, Kelly’s first trip to Disney, a quick trip to Philadelphia to visit family and friends, and shooting my first Wedding.  Plus much, much more.  While viewing all the photos I made the decision to go back and share them all with you.  These are in no special order.  Just random picked and uploaded.  I hope you enjoy them.  Happy Holidays!!!

Here’s a few pics from a shoot I did a few weeks ago.  Beautiful out on Pass-a-Grille Beach near the jetty.  Great place for catching some rays, pictures, or some fishing.  Thanks Joe and Joe for all your help!
